Unit 1A: The Element of Line
Lines are the basis for all artwork. In this unit we explore the element of line through practice, experimentation, and tape! Read More... |
Unit 1B: The Element of Shape
Confusion sometimes arises between the terms "shape" and "form." A shape is an area that stands out because of a defined boundary or change in color, value, or texture. A shape implies a flat, two-dimensional surface... Read More... |
Unit 2: Color"Color is the aspect of things that is caused by differing qualities of light being reflected or emitted by them.
To see color, you have to have light. When light shines on an object some colors bounce off the object and others are absorbed by it. Our eyes only see the colors that are bounced off or reflected. The sun’s rays contain all the colors of the rainbow mixed together. This mixture is known as white light. When white light strikes a white crayon or marker barrel, it appears white to us because it absorbs no color and reflects all color equally. A black crayon or marker cap absorbs all colors equally and reflects none, so it looks black to us. While artists consider black a color, scientists do not because black is the absence of all color." Unit 3: PerspectiveArtists use perspective to give a sense of depth and distance to their works. It can also be used in drawing ones attention to certain scenes in a drawing or painting.
We will be learning one and two point perspective and creating a series of Monoprints to complete this unit. Read More... |
The Elements & Principles of Design
|
Part 1: Gathering Knowledge
· Choose an element or principle. I will assign these. If you have an issue with your assigned technique, you really do not understand it, please see me and we can discuss reassignment.
· Read up on your given element/principle. Make sure you understand what it means. You may want to check with me to be sure you do.
Part 2: Designing
· Create 2-3 thumbnail sketches of possible ideas. Note materials you may want to use.
· Choose the design most appropriate to demonstrating your given word.
· Be sure your final design does the following:
o Demonstrates element/principle adequately
o Includes word somewhere. (Ex: if your word is VALUE, it should say “VALUE” somewhere on your art piece)
o Is neat and well crafted
o Uses materials chosen by YOU!
Part 3: Creating
· You have this week, and only this week, to create your work of art.
· Do not go smaller than 5”x7” though 8”x10” would be preferred.
