Unit 4: Two Color Linocuts: Spring
“What a strange thing!
to be alive beneath cherry blossoms.” ― Kobayashi Issa, Poems |
Unit 5: Reduction Linocut
In a reduction print the artist develops all colors from the same block. For each color pass the artist removes more material from the block. Each color is printed on top of the previous. The artist must print the entire edition as he or she works, because the printable area of the single block is reduced with each pass.
Theme: Life, Death, and Eternity. Sketches: Create 2-4 small thumbnail sketches (very basic, quick ideas) Choose a favorite, then create a to-size (trace your linoleum block) FULL COLOR sketch of your final idea. This will be helpful when you’re carving. Colors: You must have between 3-7 colors/reduction layers. Finished Edition: Try to have at least 5 identical editioned prints to hand in. Assigned: Thursday April 24th, 2014 Worktime: Approx. 2-3 weeks. (May 9th critique?) |
